It was strange.
Diane walked into her friend’s home, and before she’d even said “hello”, her friend started gushing about how good she looked.
“Have you been on vacation?” she asked. “You look so relaxed!”
Actually, Diane hadn’t been anywhere exciting in months. But everyone loves a compliment, so she smiled and told her friend that she’d been sleeping really well lately. She was sure it was down to that.
Then, before she left the party, it happened again.
“You’re glowing,” another guest told her.
Diane couldn’t figure it what was behind all the flattering comments. Was it the top she was wearing? Her new mascara?
But when she told me this story a few days later, I knew what was behind it all…
I’d first seen Diane a couple of months earlier. She’d come into Iluminance because she was an avid runner, and while her body looked fit and healthy, her face didn’t.
It was simply too thin; she actually looked gaunt, like she wasn’t very well.
It’s a pretty common issue – it’s called “runner’s face” or sometimes “gym face”…
And it can also happen through the natural aging process.
Essentially, you lose too much volume in your skin. It starts to cave in, like it’s deflating.
Your cheeks might end up looking a bit hollow. If you have any wrinkles and lines, they’ll look more prominent, and you’ll start to see signs of jowls.
Our clinicians treated Diane with dermal fillers, injecting a little substance under her skin to “re-inflate” her face back to a healthy-looking shape.
Now, all this is to do with the structure of your skin, not its quality…
…Which is why Diane didn’t connect all the nice comments with her fillers treatment.
But here’s the kicker.
Most fillers are made out of hyaluronic acid, which is one of the most water-absorbent materials on the planet.
Hyaluronic acid can hold more than 1,000 times its weight in water – that’s like you lifting a tank!
So when you inject it into your skin (where it is naturally present anyway), your skin suddenly retains a lot more moisture…
…So it is permanently hydrated…
…And looks plumper, brighter, dewier – prettier!
But that’s not even all.
Studies have shown that dermal fillers stimulate the growth of collagen under your skin. (Some fillers are actually specifically engineered to do this, but I’m not even talking about them… I’m just talking about regular hyaluronic acid fillers.)
Collagen is a key protein that keeps your skin looking firm and healthy, and you lose 1% of it every year after you turn 18…
…So when you get more of it, your skin looks firmer and fresher.
And it means that the positive effects of your dermal filler will remain for months after the fillers themselves have faded (because they’re not permanent – most fillers last 12-24 months).
Isn’t it a great 2-in-1?
You get fillers to restore lost volume in your face and to fill in some of your lines…
…And end up with a lovely glow that leaves your friends wondering where you’ve been on holiday!
